COVID-19 is caused by the novel (new) coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2. It is a global threat and has especially impacted densely populated cities, long term care facilities, cruise ships, concert and sports venues, churches and indoor gatherings. COVID-19 is not influenza. Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 range from having no symptoms whatsoever to requiring life-saving measures in a hospital intensive care setting.

Although it affects all age groups, at heightened risk for COVID-19 are individuals age 60 and older, immunocompromised individuals and those with pre-existing chronic diseases such as heart disease, pulmonary disease (asthma, pneumonia, emphysema, etc.), liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, obesity, cancer, clotting abnormalities, chronic inflammation and infections.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the state of NC and Buncombe County Health and Human Services (HHS) provide orders and guidance to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Prevention

GSMC’s goal is to prevent the spread of disease for our patients, staff and approved visitors while providing excellent care. We proactively employ practices, including universal precautions, to keep our facility and people in it safe and healthy.

Stay a minimum of 6 feet from others, wear a mask (cloth masks are acceptable) when you are in the clinic, avoid touching your face/mouth and practice good cough and sneezing hygiene. Frequent handwashing is encouraged. Hand sanitizer is provided in public areas of the clinic and soap and water are in all exam rooms and restrooms. GSMC employees sanitize frequently touched surfaces regularly during workdays. A professional service cleans the clinic every two workdays.

Although no preventive precautions are 100% effective, combining the above practices is the most effective strategy to date to prevent being infected with and/or spreading COVID-19 to others.

Screening

All patients and approved visitors entering our facility and our staff will have their temperature taken, wash their hands with soap and water for 20 seconds and be asked about travel, symptoms and exposures. GSMC staff have their temperatures checked on arrival to work each day and wear masks in public areas of our facility.

Reducing potential exposures in facility

A No Visitor Policy is in effect until further notice to limit the number of people in our facility. Please speak with us if you need a family member or assistant to accompany you at office visits to oversee your healthcare.

Utilize phone appointments when possible, keeping in mind that some office visits require your physical presence. If you are sick on the day of your appointment, please cancel or call before coming to the clinic.

Curb-side pickup of nutritional supplement orders is available. Call ahead (828) 252-9833 to place your order and call again from your car on arrival to the clinic for curbside delivery.

COVID-19 safety practices are subject to change without notification as guidelines change.
